Cyborgs, Student Sections, Easy Money, Madden References, & Mettenberger looking legit?

3 weeks into the college football season and oh baby, it's been an exciting season already. Here are some of my thoughts so far and a few things I'm looking at for this weekend.

Team to watch out for:
The LSU Tigers. This defense is tough and Zach Mettenberger has actually looked legit. 9 TD's through 3 gams and 0 picks. We'll see exactly how good they are next week against Georgia between the hedges.

Best defenses in the country:
Stanford is the best and Florida is second. The Gators' Dominique Easley is a cyborg. The guy has been absolutely unblockable.

The Game of the Century:
I'm talking about Bama-A&M, of course. By the way, hasn't there already been like 18 games of the century in like the past 10 years? It's getting a little ridiculous. Anyway, how about Johnny Football? He put up over 560 YARDS of total offense and threw for 5 TD's in that 49-42 shootout that Bama won. I tried to tell you guys in my preseason top 10, the Crimson Tide is not near as good as they had been, especially on the offensive line & the defense as a whole. I said you could spread them out and that they were not built to stop as hurry-up, spread offense, and the Aggies thoroughly showed that. Mike Evans still hasn't been covered, 7 catches for 279, sheesh, and on that 95-yarder, he just said "GET OFF ME LIL' BOY!" The problem for Texas A&M in that game was a simple one, their defense sucks. McCarron threw for 4 TDs and over 300 while Yeldon ran for 149 and a TD.

Vandy vs. South Cak:
Clowney will be fine. He'll have his big game sometime soon that make his stats look amazing again. Don't worry about him. From what I've seen so far, the Gamecocks are missing Devin Taylor a lot more than people thought they would. He did a great job last year as a defensive end who didn't worry just about sacks and was a good team defender and did a good job of eating up blockers while JD went for the quarterback. This year Chaz Sutton starts in this position, but he's a guy who likes to rush upfield and go for sacks as well, and the combination of him and Clowney has just not worked as well so far. Connor Shaw and the offense looked unstoppable in the first half, as he was making some incredible throws (the TD to Bruce Ellington between two defenders was magnificent). I know the Commodores' defense isn't the greatest, but the offensive showing was still impressive. Now the second half, I have no idea what happened. Vandy went to the Wildcat some and they were ripping off 5 yards a play, I couldn't understand it. But anyway, the Cocks held on to win and climb back to .500 in SEC(or should I say SoftEC lololol) play. I actually went to this game since Clemson had a bye week and had pretty legit seats (check the picture below). Funny thing, I actually stayed longer than most of the South Carolina students. Where the heck were you guys? Y'all filed out at halftime like the game was over. Sorry, I thought there were only 7 home games a year and that you should stay for the majority of the game, especially when it's a conference game. But hey, what do I know? I like to tailgate as well, I just wait until after the game to head back out there.

Tigers and Wolfpack:
Thursday night. ESPN. On the road. Carter-Finley Stadium. No. 3 in the country. Does this game scare me as a Clemson fan? Hell no! In the past it might have, but nah, not anymore. This is a new Clemson with a new attitude and we actually have some swagger now. The team expects to win, and they expect to win big. The Tigers have vastly superior talent than N.C. State, and this game will not even be close. Their QB Thomas is garbage, he doesn't fit the offense that they are trying to run at all. Their defensive line is solid, but that's the only bright spot on their team right now. First year head coach Dave Doeren may run some trick plays early to keep it close, but Clemson should and will pull away. Tajh goes off, Sammy, TD-Tay, and G-Hop have big games in the first game since Charone Peake's ACL injury. Defense plays tough and the d-line goes off. Our defense is ahead of Vegas right now, meaning I don't think they realize how good they are. If you're a bettor, take Clemson -13.5, -14, whatever it is right now. EASY MONEY.
CLEMSON 48 N.C. STATE 20

Other lines I like:
Georgia Tech -7 vs. UNC
USC -7 vs. Utah St
Tennessee +16.5 at Florida

Well, I guess that's all. Be sure to follow me on twitter for more sports and life thoughts @K_Mart10.

Clemson vs. South Carolina State: The Rewatch

Here are some tidbits from rewatching the Clemson-South Carolina State. Click here to watch the game for yourself.

1st Quarter

  • Surprised to see Germone Hopper & T.J. Green returning kicks, but I like it.
  • Went to Martavis "TD-Tay" Bryant on the first play. Trying to get his confidence up.
  • Tajh Boyd with Brett Favre-esque shovel pass to Stanton Seckinger.
  • Lot of 2nd string offensive linemen already in the game.
  • Nice wording, Mr. Referee, on the review of Adam Humprhies' catch. "On the catch, it stands."
  • Great TD return by Martin Jenkins, & solid blocking by the defense downfield.

2nd Quarter

  • Corners have been playing physical and hitting hard. (Peters, Robinson, Jenkins)
  • Don't like the color commentator guy, Brian Stann.
  • Missed tackles on Tyler McDonald TD catch for the Bulldogs. Those will kill you.
  • Blanks missed one of that play. He followed up his poor showing against Georgia with another one against S.C. State.
  • T.J. Green has great balance.
  • Seckinger has played really well this year.
  • Bryant still letting ball get into his body too much at times.
  • Zac Brooks runs hard.
  • COLE STOUDT FOR HEISMAN!!
  • Bryant just "Mossed" that DB.
  • Might should've been a spearing call when Roderick McDowell got hit in the head.
  • D.J. Howard runs too upright.

Halftime

  • Marching 101 killed it. The Michael Jackson tribute was awesome. #SmoothCriminal

2nd Half

  • The sun was scorching. I sure am glad I wore my straw hat.
  • C.J. Davidson looked really good. Could be a playmaker in the future.
  • SWAG KELLY! #Chad
  • Kellen Jones looked good.
  • Jayron Kearse is huge. #Freak
  • I'd be perfectly fine if Davidson & Brooks start getting all of Howard's carries.
  • Daniel Rodriguez on the punt return. #LtDan
  • Hopper 2nd TD catch was nice. He got drilled.
  • Kelly injury looked really serious at first. I thought he re-tore his ACL.
  • Shaq Lawson making plays.
  • Good Lord, I'm glad this game is over.

Postgame

  • Dabo Swinney is now 28-5 in Death Valley.

Clemson vs. Georgia: The Rewatch

Here are a few of my thoughts from rewatching the Clemson-Georgia game this week. This isn't a play by play breakdown, just a few tidbits from things I saw. If you want to watch the game for yourself, click here.

Pregame

  • Great job on the buses/hill intro by ABC. A really awesome/unique look at that Tiger tradition
  • Awesome call by Brent Musburger on UGA players being at the bottom of the hill, "Even Georgia had to take a peak."
  • Few of the former players I saw around: Andre Ellington, Andre Branch, Nuk Hopkins, Rashard Hall, Chris Chancellor, DeAndre McDaniel, Xavier Dye, Dwayne Allen, Rod Gardner, Michael Dean Perry, Mallaciah Goodman.

1st Quarter

  • Robert Smith was late to get on the field on UGA's first snap before they incurred a penalty. What the hell?
  • Chad Morris always has the flyest coaches' gear. That white pullover was clean.
  • Love Tajh Boyd doing the money sign after his 1st TD run. The same thing that Manziel got blasted for earlier that Saturday.
  • Huge block by Darrell Smith on Georgia LB Herrera on Tajh TD.
  • Awful angle by Robert Smith on Todd Gurley 75-yard TD run. I think we know who failed geometry.
  • On that run the Clemson LBs also missed their gaps, & Spencer Shuey somewhat blocked Travis Blanks.
  • You're not going to outrun Sammy Watkins. His TD catch was boss.
  • Also, should've been a horsecollar at the end.
  • Georgia took one shot downfield, was one-on-one but Martin Jenkins had good coverage.
  • UGA's fullback Hicks is a beast.
2nd Quarter

  • ESPN needs to stop playing that Jake Owen song.
  • Lot more defensive players wearing play wristbands for Clemson this year.
  • 97-yard TD drive by UGA with 2 long 3rd-down conversions.
  • Good play by Herrera poking ball out on first Charone Peake drop.
  • Great tip on screen pass by Quandon Christian. Screen was set up well.
  • Corico Wright(Hawkins) is a grad assistant?
  • It's "Shuey", not "Sooey," Musburger.
  • Aflac question: Hines Ward? Yep, I got it.
  • DeStefano got more snaps at TE than I thought he would.
  • Did not like play-calling on goalline, but good 3rd-down run by Tajh for TD.
  • Michael Hamlin is a grad assistant as well?
  • Great play call and pick by Corey Crawford. Moves well for a big guy, you should see him play basketball.
3rd Quarter

  • Awesome job by Peake breaking tackle on 4th down & getting first.
  • Great throw & catch by Boyd to Zac Brooks. Love the wheel route.
  • What was Brooks' "O" celebration for? We're not Oregon...
  • Clemson took advantage of Safety Norman all night long.
  • Gurley is a monster.
  • 2 times UGA gets a penalty at the start of a drive & had to use a timeout to prevent a 3rd.
  • Terrible snap on Georgia's botched field goal.
4th Quarter

  • Christian getting killed in coverage on the play-action rollout.
  • That 2nd drop by Martavis Bryant may have been a catch, took steps then lost it when he hit the ground.
  • The spin move by Roderick McDowell was a thing of beauty. Circle button.
  • Great false start by Beasley on high snap at the goal line.
  • Incredible balance & athletic move by Seckinger on TD. #SCISA
  • That last Tiger TD was a championsip drive. 12 plays, 87 yards.
  • Garry Peters made some really nice plays.
  • Game-saver by walk-on Sr C.J. Jones on the punt that went into the endzone.
  • Tajh Boyd is a gamer.
  • Great kickoffs by Pinion all night. Touchbacks every time.
Postgame

  • "It's only unthinkable if you don't think it." - Dabo Swinney
